There are two types of Vice Presidents: door mats and matadors. Which do you think I am?

Hi Abi,

Interesting presentation! Please find the notes attached below.

Hope you enjoy your time in Uganda!

Best,

Jennifer

Dorry: How are they measuring single nephron gfr in donors/recipients? looking at racial differences in single nephron GFR.

Jackie: Not routine here to do biopsies. used to be.

Dorry: Bob Montgomery has biopsy data and you would have to rekindle that data, minimal harm to do biopsy.

Jackie: have these studies shown that there has been correlated with kidney volume?

Dorry: Another option is to link up with the WHOLE donor study where they do these protocol biopsies?

Jackie: would be challenging to re-read at the center, but almost everyone saves paraffin slides and would need a pathologist here to get the slides to be read.

Dorry: Anything that Mayo does is in Caucasian donors.

Dorry: What % of donors have HTN after KT? – It’s 3%.

Jackie: Do our risk calculators include relationship?

Allan: not granular, but we have it by first-degree, second-degree. you could improve that calculator by including the stuff you presented.

Dorry: Is your ref 1 normalized for that race-ethnicity group? did you look at adjusted model for whether the unrelated AA is the same as an unrelated Caucasians? That’s a big deal.

Dorry: One of the things that we’ve wanted to do, is to take the granularity of the CKD pc data and the life-time risk methodology and apply that to donors so we could give them a life-time risk of ESRD post-donation. As you show, there is a huge difference by biological relative. I think one thing that would be to extend the calculator the donor characteristics but by the donor-recipient relationship.

Dorry: So there aren’t any cohorts about family history? Ask Joe if there are any cohorts that ask if family hx of HTN or CKD is delineated, and whether we can do anything.

Said of Harold Bloom:

Maybe he couldn’t have done otherwise. Maybe he was, unlike the works of art he championed as enduring and timeless, a man thoroughly of his time — a working-class, Yiddish-speaking kid from the Bronx in thrall to the promise and prestige of the mid-century English department: of arbitrating what the critic Matthew Arnold famously called “the best that has been thought and said.”

For me Identity and “taste” are the same thing

I love Belgian beer. And I get along with folks at Belgian beer festivals

We swap notes on various craft beer styles and what works for who, thereby expanding each other’s “experience” and prospects in the face of 1000 options of beers of tap!

This sensory experience is mine and I do not share the “burden of representation” with anyone

And once you discover that differences in opinion about the palatability of a coriander-flavor craft beer can be caused by differences in common variants or SMPs, one is reaffirmed in their insistence on the first person singular “I.”
